This event is being held in conjunction with ArtWalk. Twelve hand painted themed chairs by The Studio Artists at Ethel's Studio will be on display in the lobby of the Kress Theatre on Third St. in downtown Alexandria. This will be the final viewing and bidding for these chairs. A portion of the proceeds from the auction of these chairs will go to Central Louisiana Arts & Healthcare, Inc. to continue its healing arts programs in Cenla.
This concert featuring the Buffalo, NY based group BABIK is sponsored by the Bindursky-Fuhrer Music Fund and is part of the Rapides Parish Library's Big Read Event. Babik plays toe-tapping Gypsy Swing music which combines Jazz, Eastern European music, swing and standards from the 30's and 40's. Concert is free and open to the public. This is going to be a safe and fun environment for all. So bring your treats downtown and share with all the little goblins. Upside: Parents won’t have to follow in cars or walk dark neighborhoods. Children won’t have to jump ditches or cross busy streets. Everything will be located downtown. AND, you will get the opportunity to see all the cute and ghoulish costumes that you normally don’t get to see AND enjoy visiting with local business owners and residents that have gone above and beyond to make this a safe environment for your children. This will be fun for young and young at heart. So come out and have a blast. HOWLING WOLF will be on site with all you favorite Halloween tunes to make this a festive night for all. On Tuesday, October 20th through Thursday October 22nd, teams of experienced Medicaid employees and community partners will descend on locations throughout the Alexandria area parishes to assist families who wish to insure children through LaCHIP, the Louisiana Children’s Health Insurance Program. During the outreach event, blitz team members will be stationed at key locations and travel the parish to distribute applications, help increase awareness and allow face-to-face interaction with families throughout the community to offer them the personal help they need to apply for LaCHIP.

A native of Winnfield, Harlan currently serves on the faculty of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary as professor of church music. He is known for composing numerous choral anthems and hymn arrangements. In previous years, Harlan served on the faculty of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX.

The 2009 Annual Creole Heritage Celebration will be held in the Natchitoches Events Center, 750 Front Street.
