| The City of Alexandria is seeking volunteers for a service project in February, clean-up after the Mardi Gras parades, February 20, 21, and 22, 2009. On Friday, February 20, Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22, the Mardi Gras Association will sponsor three Mardi Gras parades. As in previous years, volunteers have participated in the events by attending the parade. Each group has taken a designated area of the parade route to clean. After watching the parade, volunteers pick up litter in their area. Cenla Pride and the City of Alexandria provide gloves and trash bags to assist with the clean-up. Boxes are also placed along the route to reduce the amount of litter thrown on the ground. We are in need of volunteers especially for the Sunday parade. Participants will be given a Mardi Gras patch at a party to be held at a later date. We are still working out the details of the date, time, and place. You will be given the details at a later date. We will need to know the number of volunteers in your organization to have enough food and patches. Gloves and additional trash bags can be delivered to you prior to the event, picked up from the Lab Testing Department at 1212 Hudson Blvd, or make arrangements to get supplies the day of the parade. We will need to know a tentative number of volunteers to drop off enough supplies. If you have any questions, please call Ann Wilson at 441-6251 or cell phone number, 446-0628. Visit Alexandria Mardi Gras Association website for parade routes. | ||
