The Learning Center for Rapides Parish is offering area residents interested in pursuing a college education in the fields of business, education or applied sciences, the opportunity to “Come See” what choices exist for them in central Louisiana.
The Learning Center will host its first, “Come See the LCRP” event from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the facility, which is located at 1410 Neel Kearby Blvd., on England Airpark. Representatives from eight institutions will be available to answer questions and share information about their respective programs and institutions.
The event will highlight the natural progressions that can occur in various fields of study. For example, a new college student can take developmental and general (core) courses that would be applicable toward any degree field they pursue. Those courses are available through Louisiana State University at Eunice’s Cenla campus at the Learning Center. Louisiana State University at Alexandria also offers support courses. Incoming students interested in business can begin with either LSUE’s associate of general studies/business degree, or they may opt for a four-year degree through Northwestern State University or Upper Iowa University. Upper Iowa also offers a four-year Public Administration degree. Beyond the undergraduate level, they could work on a Master of Business Administration degree through Louisiana Tech University … all through the Learning Center.
Those interested in graduate opportunities in education also have options. Northwestern State University offers the Master of Education degree, with specializations in Educational Leadership, Special Education and Counseling. Louisiana Tech offers the prep course for the National Board Teacher Certification, and Tech also partners with the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Grambling State University to offer the Doctor of Education in either Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership.
In applied sciences, McNeese State University offers Engineering, Southern University - Shreveport offers Funeral Service Administration, and LSUE offers Hospitality Management.
The Learning Center is the only consortium of colleges and universities of its kind in the state. Each institution sets its own deadlines for applying for admissions, and each institution has different criteria for admissions. Prospective students can find contact information for each of the institutions and/or programs by visiting the Learning Center’s Web site at www.TheLCRP.net.
For more information on the “Come See the LCRP” event, call the Learning Center at (318) 484-2184.
